Welcome to the official website of Madison Township in eastern Licking County, Ohio, located just to the east of the city of Newark. Madison Township is primarily a rural and residential community although it is also home to several local businesses.

Established in 1812, Madison Township possesses a rich historical background of past Native American, canal and railroad activity. In recent years several farms in the township have been granted agricultural easements through the Ohio Farmland Preservation Program to help landowners ensure their farmland remains in agricultural use forever.

The Licking County Bike Trail passes through the township and the Marne community along the Ohio Central Railroad tracks. Also the west entrance to the Black Hand Gorge portion of the bike trail following along the Licking River is located in Madison Township at Claylick.
